Who is suitable: -
1. Most patients are suitable for whitening but there are patients who we would advise not to proceed with whitening. This is the reason we strongly advise as assessment by a qualified dentist before proceeding with whitening.
2. Why am I unsuitable?
Reasons whitening may not be suitable for you
- Pregnancy/ breast feeding. All professional whitening products advise against whitening while pregnant and breast feeding.
- Patients with large fillings or crowns/caps in the visible smile line may not achieve the desired result. This is because all whitening products whiten teeth and not fillings or porcelain: so as the teeth whiten the fillings/ caps appear yellower. Replacement of these fillings/ caps may be possible to achieve the optimal result after whitening is finished.
3.There are two main categories of professional tooth whitening:
- Rapid/power whitening in the dental chair by the dentist. This is where a light/laser/UV light activates whitening gel on the teeth to give you the fastest result ( approximately 1.5hours)
- Custom made individual trays. This is where custom made trays are fabricated to fit your teeth very accurately to whiten your teeth yourself. These trays are checked for fit and comfort and instructions are given for the applying the whitening gel. Commonly applied for a few hours daily, or at night for an optimum period of 14 days to achieve optimal results.
